Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) – Ethiopia’s Managing Director, Daryl Wilson, after announcing plans on raising funds for charity at the Munga Cycling competition has begun the long journey to the finish line. The funds that are going to be raised will go to Gergesenon Charity Organization.
The Munga Cycling competition is described by many sport commentators as ‘the toughest race on Earth’. It is a single stage race across South Africa that covers 1,100 km. This year’s race began on December 2nd and will end on December 7th. Competitors are required to bring their own provisions including food, drinks, and clothing.
Gergesenon is a locally based charitable organization that provides aid to mentally challenged individuals in Ethiopia. Due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the organization is currently fighting to stay afloat. Studies across the globe have shown that mentally challenged individuals are one of the demographic groups affected most adversely by measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Daryl will be taking part in the race to promote his initiative to raise funds for the organization. He has been able to raise 2,800 USD for the struggling organization so far. He has also created a gofundme page that you can visit here to directly contribute to Gergesenon.
