Ethiopian Women, Children, and Youth Minister Filsan Abdullahi and French Ambassador to Ethiopia, Remy Marechaux have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of enhancing Ethiopia’s gender equality and access to documentation.
Speaking at the signing event Filsan Abdullahi confirmed that the French government’s experience with gender issues is going to be an invaluable asset to her department. She also indicated that one of the major avenues of cooperation is going to be in creating a database for adopted Ethiopian children.
The Ambassador also confirmed that the database, which will provide digital information for more than 80,000 people, is only part of the initial phase of cooperation. Going forward, both parties envision a leading role for Ethiopia in the French 2021 ‘Generation Equality Forum’.
Both parties affirmed the importance of focusing on gender issues for the sustenance of current development trends in Ethiopia and the role of technology in driving this goal.
Furthermore, the Ambassador also emphasized the importance of the 2021 forum as a follow-up to the Beijing Conference of Women that was held 25 years ago.
