Earlier this week Safaricom had announced that it had made the shortlist for the two telecom licenses that Ethiopia is currently in the process of bidding, but the Ethiopian Communications Authority (ECA) denies that there is even a shortlist for the bidding process.

In a statement released a day after Safaricom had made the shortlisy by CEO Michael Joseph, the ECA affirmed that it had not received any complete proposals to date. The ECA also said that it has not excluded any parties from participation.

According to the statement the ECA was commenting on Safaricom’s status as a bidder beacause several media outlets had been misguided by the Kenyan firm and reported that it had been shortlisted. Safaricom has not commented on the contradicting narratives, yet.

The ECA also stated that the deadline before any shortlist can be determined is April 5th of 2020.
