A tech rights group announced Monday that a group of Facebook content moderators in Kenya is suing the platform’s parent company Meta and two outsourcing firms. The lawsuit got filed by 43 employees of the outsourcing firm Sama, who were responsible for moderating Facebook material. They claim their dismissal was illegal under Kenyan law.

As stated by Foxglove technology justice nonprofit, which is supporting the lawsuit, recruited by Meta to moderate Facebook content from Nairobi in 2019, notified 260 content moderators at the start of the year that they were getting laid off.

The 260 moderators being fired and barred from future employment are getting punished for this and later syndication, which is against Kenyan law, according to the lawsuit filed today, Foxglove said in a statement.
